Shots fired! Arsenal star hits back at Troy Deeney's 'cojones' comments

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has hit back at Troy Deeney’s claim that his team lack ‘cojones’ after Watford scored in added time to beat the Gunners 2-1 on Saturday.

The Watford striker made the comment after the game in which he scored a penalty after a dubious decision, but Wilshere does not believe it was justified.

In a press conference ahead of the club’s tie with Red Star Belgrade in the Europa League, Wilshere said: “As a player if your attitude is questioned, it’s horrible. I look around this team and you can’t question our character.

“I don’t think the comments were justified.

Arsene Wenger admitted the comment hurt, but said he trusted his players’ quality and character.

Jack Wilshere

Wilshere is expected to start against Belgrade on Thursday as the Gunners attempt to maintain their 100% record in the competition after winning their last two games against BATE Borisov and Koln.

Olivier Giroud will also line up as Mathieu Debuchy makes the starting eleven for the first time eleven months after picking up a hamstring injury last November. Petr Cech will be in between the sticks after David Ospina was left at home.
