Rooney was dropped for Arsenal clash for being too slow, reveals Man United boss

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney was dropped from Jose Mourinho’s starting line-up which faced Arsenal in the Premier League over the weekend due to being too slow, according to the Mirror.

Per-the-source, the Portuguese tactician felt that Rooney was not fast enough and opted to start him on the bench.

It has been a tough week for Rooney after he was pictured on a night out during international duty then being dropped for Saturday’s clash with the Gunners.

United were held to a 1-1 draw by Arsenal at Old Trafford. The Red Devils were the far superior side and took the lead midway though the second half via a strike from Juan Mata.

However, Arsenal managed to snatch a draw in the closing minutes of the game after Olivier Giroud powered home a header.

Arsenal take on PSG in the UEFA Champions League this week while Manchester United host Feyenoord at Old Trafford in the Europa League.
