It’s difficult to understand why Real Madrid would sell Isco, but according to reports, that’s exactly what could happen this summer.
The 25-year-old possesses bundles of talent and quality, and has seven goals and six assists in 31 appearances so far this season.
Perhaps those tallies aren’t quite as high as they should be, and that in turn has arguably been a factor in why AS are reporting that Zinedine Zidane is ready to axe him this summer.
The report goes on to put forward Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Juventus and Bayern Munich as the clubs with the financial means and appeal to complete such a transfer, and so it remains to be seen whether or not the Spaniard moves on and where he chooses to go if he is forced out.
It’s still difficult to understand the sense behind such a move. Isco is still 25 years of age, has played a key role for Real Madrid even when not first choice, and others around him are struggling more so.
There’s arguably a case to be made that with Gareth Bale’s injury problems, Cristiano Ronaldo turning 33 this week and Karim Benzema’s goalscoring woes which have seen him score just six goals in 24 appearances all season, Los Blancos need to be looking at the likes of Isco, Marco Asensio and others to help them start a new cycle.
Instead, they’re the names being linked with exits, and so it remains to be seen whether or not Isco leaves, and in turn if the reigning Spanish and European champions live to regret such a decision.
Out of those sides mentioned above, Liverpool are arguably the side most in need of a player like Isco having lost their creative playmaker in Philippe Coutinho last month, although the likes of Man City, Juve and Bayern are seemingly in a stronger position to offer the Spanish international a chance to win major honours in the coming years.
