Raheem Sterling put his finger to his ear after giving Manchester City the lead against Arsenal on Sunday.
It may have been directed at a small group of Arsenal fans who chose to boo him at the Emirates, but it was more likely aimed at a wider audience.
Sterling has been victimised by fans and newspapers for much of his footballing career and this appeared to be hitting back — both with his goal and his celebration.
His girlfriend, Paige Milian, is often dragged into the conversation when critics are blasting Sterling. She was described as “long-suffering” by The Sun in an article about their engagement.
Paige also moved to shush her and Raheem’s haters after seeing her man bag against the Gunners.
Watching the game on TV, Paige took a picture of the screen and posted it to Instagram along with the word ‘Yasssssss’ and a hushing emoji.
Sterling was excellent against Arsenal, who struggled to cope with him all game.
Before being subbed off on 87 minutes, had 50 touches of the ball, including three shots.
He also worked tirelessly without the ball, contributing to Pep Guardiola’s high press which Arsenal had not answer for.
