Manchester United face defeat in pursuit of English defensive midfielder

One of the more long running contract sagas in English football this season is set to end in the next couple of weeks when Reece Oxford signs a new five year deal at West Ham, according to the Sun.

The English talent’s current deal had been winding down, with both Manchester City and Manchester United apparently interested in signing the 17 year old.

However after keeping Hammers fans waiting for months, Oxford has decided to commit to the club he’s at now.

According to the same article, Oxford’s reluctance to commit to a deal sooner has been due to worries about a lack of minutes – a problem which doesn’t sound like it would improve with a move to a Champions League club.

Perhaps Oxford’s new commitment to the club will persuade Slaven Bilic to give the youngster a few starts. Then again given West Ham’s precarious position in the table, he might have to wait a little longer.
