Man Utd face real concern, staggering €70m bid touted as rivals refuse to give up

It’s a transfer saga that has rumbled on for years, but it’s claimed that Real Madrid could be set to launch a fresh bid for Man Utd goalkeeper David De Gea.

The Spaniard has established himself as one of the top shot-stoppers in Europe with his form at Old Trafford, as he continues to prove to be a fundamental player in United’s pursuit of major honours.

While his teammates in the backline deserves credit too, Man Utd have consistently had one of the best defences in the Premier League in recent years, and De Gea is a major part of that.

They conceded just 35 goals in the 2015/16 campaign, giving them the joint-best defensive record in the top flight, while they had the second best last season with just 29 goals conceded.

So far this year, they boast the tightest defence of all 20 teams with just six goals going in after 12 games, and De Gea’s saves, leadership and organisational qualities will undoubtedly have been key in ensuring that they remain so good at the back.

In turn, reports from Cadena SER, as re-reported by The Mirror, suggesting that Real Madrid are ready to submit a whopping €70m bid next summer will be a concern for Jose Mourinho.

The 27-year-old was on the cusp of moving to the Spanish capital in 2015, and it doesn’t seem as though Madrid are willing to go away just yet with De Gea preferred to second choice Kepa Arrizabalaga who would cost €20m less, as per the report.

For that bit extra, it’s no surprise that Madrid are said to be considering a big-money move for De Gea, but it remains to be seen whether or not they’re able to get the deal done this time.

As for Man Utd, they’ll be desperate to keep him as aside from his influence mentioned above, it will be bitterly difficult to find a quality replacement at a reasonable price to step straight in, although Sergio Romero did a fine job last season through their Europa League run so he may well be a candidate to step in too.
