Liverpool have emerged as surprise favourites to seal the transfer of Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann despite recent links with Manchester United and Barcelona.

The Sun recently claimed Griezmann could be tempted to snub Barcelona for United if the money was right, but Sky Bet currently price Liverpool as 7/2 favourites for the France international.

This would be a superb statement signing by the Reds if they could pull it off, though there’s little suggestion from any reports in the press that he is a genuine target.

Could Antoine Griezmann seal a shock transfer to Liverpool?

It is not clear why Sky Bet see reason to have Liverpool as Griezmann’s most likely destination, but it may be that a flurry of bets have been made based on developments that are not yet fully known.

Sky Sports have previously claimed Griezmann has a release clause of £89million, which shouldn’t be unaffordable to Liverpool cashed in on Philippe Coutinho.

Some fans have reacted to the latest transfer speculation on Twitter, but few seem convinced there’s anything in it…

In fairness, the Griezmann rumour comes just as Liverpool look in need of big-name signings in attack after Philippe Coutinho’s departure to Barcelona.

The Daily Express have reported the Reds are in talks to sign Riyad Mahrez in that position, while the Liverpool Echo have linked them with Monaco’s Thomas Lemar.

Both are similar style players to Griezmann, so perhaps there’s some sense in this shift in odds that the 26-year-old could now be on Jurgen Klopp’s agenda?
