Aston Villa won a crucial Championship match at Loftus Road on Sunday to push themselves closer to the play-offs and QPR further down the table.
Mark Bunn pulled off a good save early on as QPR threatened.
Just after the half hour Jonathan Kodjia won a penalty but Alex Smithies pulled off a fine save to keep the game level.
Ross McCormack should surely have scored on the rebound.
Kodjia had an eventful game and also saw a shot saved by Smithies in the second half. The QPR keeper also saved well from Leandro Bacuna.
The deadlock was finally broken with 15 minutes remaining, Aston Villa’s main man Jonathan Kodjia squeezed one past Smithies for 1-0.
Villa could have won more comfortably, but Rudy Gestede missed a fine late chance.
