Japan’s hopes of reaching the 2018 World Cup in Russia were boosted on Tuesday after they beat group leaders Saudi Arabia.
Both countries now have 10 points after five matches, and they occupy both automatic positions for Russia 2018.
The Blue Samurai broke the deadlock on the stroke of halftime through Hiroshi Kiyotake.
Genki Haraguchi doubled the lead in the 79th minute, before Omar Hawsawi set up a nervous ending finding the target late on for the Saudis.
The visitors had Osama Hawsawi sent off in injury time.
