Hot Football Transfer Gossip: Real Madrid ‘target Pochettino’, Man United and Chelsea ‘want £40m Dembele’, new job for Giggs?

Imagine how good Tottenham would be if Real Madrid didn’t exist. Gareth Bale would still be winning games on his own, Luka Modric would be pulling the strings in midfield and they would have reached the Champions League semi-finals at least in 2011.

But whenever something really good threatens to happen at White Hart Lane, those bullies from the Bernabeu come along and spoil it - and now they’re going to do it again.

The Sunday Mirror reports that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is “top of the list” of Real’s “future managerial targets”.

It doesn’t matter that they’ve already got Zinedine Zidane, one of the world’s greatest men, at the helm. Real are the club who always think they can do better, and “doubts have surfaced” over Zizou’s “long-term future”.

Meanwhile, Pochettino’s rejuvenation of Tottenham has “turned heads” in the Spanish capital and the Mirror reckons the Argentine would be “tempted” to join them.

After first being overlooked by Premier League Swansea and then by Championship Wigan, the Mail on Sunday says the Welshman is now in the frame to take over at League One MK Dons.

Let’s hope Giggsy gets one of these jobs at some point before he drops off the radar altogether and stops being linked with anyone, like Alan Curbishley.

There are standard fun and games going on at Curbs’ most recent club West Ham, who are trying to sell misfiring striker Simone Zaza before they’ve even bought him.

The Sunday Express says the Hammers wants to offer Zaza as a “makeweight” in part of a £22.5m offer to sign Napoli’s Manolo Gabbiadini in January, although it’s unclear how they expect this to work given that they don’t even own Zaza.

Whatever happens, the Irons will want to avoid paying the extra £17.7m that will reportedly be due to Juventus if Zaza plays 10 more games for the club. Shame the payments weren’t based on goals instead of appearances, because he would have cost them nothing.

The Hammers, along with every other club who wanted a striker in the summer, are probably wishing they’d just signed Moussa Dembele from Fulham instead.

The 20-year-old, who joined Celtic for free, is now apparently worth £40m. The Sunday Express says Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City are all willing to bid “at least” that amount for the Frenchman and will go “head-to-head” for his signature.

Elsewhere, United have been linked with Real Madrid defender Pepe (Calcio Mercato), Chelsea are planning an £18m move for Newcastle defender Jamaal Lascelles (Sun on Sunday) and out-of-favour Blues midfielder John Obi Mikel is being tracked by Marseille (Goal). Which reminds us, didn’t he change his name to Mikel John Obi in August? And why has everyone ignored him?? No respect.
