Good news Barcelona fans: Spanish football expert says one simple thing missing from huge contract update

Barcelona supporters can be forgiven for being a little nervous about Lionel Messi’s contract situation at the Nou Camp.

As it officially stands, the 30-year-old will be out of contract next summer as his current deal expires at the end of the season.

For a player who has scored 522 goals in 596 appearances for the Catalan giants at senior level which has led to a stunning haul of trophies from 2004 onwards, that’s a big risk to be taking as there will undoubtedly be no shortage of interested parties.

However, when asked in his Sky Sports Q&A on Friday, Spanish football expert Guillem Balague gave a huge insight into the latest situation with regards to Messi’s contract at Barcelona, and he’s revealed that ultimately it’s not even an issue as he’s already earning the salary promised in the new deal.

“Messi is getting paid according to the new contract. All that is missing is the picture with the president,” he told Sky Sports.

That will undoubtedly come as a major relief to Barcelona supporters as although there is still no official word to suggest that Messi has all-but penned a new deal, it seems as though there is little risk of him moving on next summer, as per Balague.

After signing another club legend in Andres Iniesta to a new contract earlier this month, it seems it’s merely a matter of time before Messi follows suit. As he continues to show this season that he has no intention of slowing down in terms of his influence on the side, Barcelona will hope to get a new contract signed, sealed and delivered sooner rather than later to end all talk over the Argentine superstar’s future.
