Cristiano Ronaldo beat Lionel Messi to the 2017 Ballon d’Or title with Tottenham’s Harry Kane placing tenth on the list.
Ronaldo sealed his fifth title drawing level with Messi as the the joint all-time top Ballon d’Or winners.
The story of the night however was perhaps seeing England and Tottenham’s Harry Kane place so high on the list.
With the golden generation of Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, David Beckham and more now far behind us many have feared it would be a while before an English star emerged to compete with the world’s elite.
However, Harry Kane has stepped forward and his prolific strike rate was rewarded tonight with the star given a place in the top ten.
Despite this, La Liga once again dominated the awards ceremony with Real Madrid alone having three players in the top ten. Both Luka Modric and Sergio Ramos joined Cristiano Ronaldo with the Croatian Modric placing 5th and the Spaniard Ramos placing 6th.
