Arsenal fans won't like £52m star's insight into club ambitions as he talks PL title

Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette has indirectly risked causing a stir in a discussion over the club’s Premier League title hopes this season.

The Gunners have faltered again this year as they sit a staggering 17 points adrift of leaders Man City after just 16 games, which looks to be an insurmountable lead.

That will be a huge source of frustration for supporters who continue to see the club fall short in their pursuit of major trophies, now seemingly settling for a battle to make the top four and qualify for the Champions League instead.

While this isn’t new news to most of them, Lacazette has suggested that the objective this season all along was to make the top four with a Premier League title a bonus, which really isn’t the level of ambition Arsenal fans want to hear from the club or their record £52.7m signing from the summer, as per The Guardian.

“It would be complicated to win it at this point, we’d need a miracle,” he said, as quoted by the Evening Standard. “City would need to lose a lot of games and we know their record. But the goal in coming here was to qualify for the Champions League and if we get the title, fantastic.”

Perhaps some will argue that’s just a realistic outlook, as Arsenal can’t compete financially with the likes of City and Man United and they’re just being honest with signings who know what the targets are.

In contrast, that’s setting the bar lower than many fans would want, and so while they will need a miracle as Lacazette notes this season, with possible free agents Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil potentially leaving next summer, will the minimum objective be even lower next season?
