£26m Man Utd star risks axe, real doubt over future as struggles continue

£26m Man Utd star risks axe, real doubt over future as struggles continue

When Henrikh Mkhitaryan signed for Man Utd, many supporters would have been delighted that the former Borussia Dortmund playmaker was joining the club.

The Armenian international registered 23 goals and a staggering 32 assists in 52 games for the Bundesliga giants in the 2015/16 campaign, but he simply hasn’t been able to replicate that kind of decisive form at Old Trafford.

Mkhitaryan had 11 goals and just five assists in 41 outings last season, while he’s got two goals and six assists in 16 games so far this year as the 28-year-old is also struggling to cement his place in the starting line-up with so much quality competition in the United squad.

In turn, it’s reported by The Sun that the 28-year-old could already be fighting for his future with the Red Devils, as various concerns have been raised over his situation in England.

From injuries, fitness issues to ‘mental and physical restraints’, the report doesn’t paint a particularly positive picture for Mkhitaryan, as he looks set to fall short of impressing Jose Mourinho enough to make him a fundamental part of his plans.

The Portuguese tactician is spoilt for choices with the likes of Juan Mata, Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford all available to play behind Romelu Lukaku or Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and so Mkhitaryan has his work cut out to save his United career.

It seems a huge shame following his £26m move to Old Trafford last year, as reported by Sky Sports, as for the quality that he had displayed in Germany, that looked to be a bargain signing to add real class and flair to this United team.

Instead, based on the latest report, it looks as though Mkhitaryan could be fighting for his future between now and the end of the season.
